An Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) provides 3 Degree of freedom (3DOF) attitude information (pitch, roll, and heading angles).
The miniature Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) consists of solid-state MEMS Gyrometers, Accelerometers, and Magnetometers on all three axes. The AHRS includes an Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to process the IMU measurement and calculate the attitude and heading angles. In addition to attitude determination, an AHRS may be part of an Inertial Navigation System (INS) when combined with a Global Positioning System (GPS).
A special type of sensor fusion calculation is applied to the inertial data to estimate the attitude and heading.
AHRS can be combined with air data computer to form an "air data, attitude and heading reference systems" (ADAHRS), which provide additional information such as airspeed, altitude and outside air temperature.
A short video that demonstrates the AHRS & IMU operation.
